Stress management
Why is stress management important?
Whilst our burnout prevention programmes are intended for individuals working in exceptionally demanding environments, Clinical Psychology Associates also delivers tailored programmes that enable companies to address the key issue of stress in a meaningful and effective way. This is vital because, as well as adversely affecting performance and productivity, stress is a primary cause of absences from work and unnecessarily high rates of staff turnover.
How can we help your company’s managers?
We deliver training programmes that are designed specifically to enable managers at all levels of organisations to implement a proactive approach to the mental health and well-being of the employees they oversee.
This training provides HR and line managers with vital knowledge and skills:
- A comprehensive awareness of the most common mental health problems, including all the major anxiety disorders and depression.
- How mental health difficulties are likely to manifest themselves in the interaction and behaviour of employees, taking into account the nature of their specific work environments and the types of roles they perform.
- How to detect the early indicators that employees may be experiencing problems.
- How to use specific engagement techniques to discuss sensitive issues with employees in the most constructive way.
- How to create an environment in which employees feel able to come forward and seek help in addressing problems, whilst avoiding the creation of a dependency culture.
This is reinforced by ongoing advice and support for managers, which is delivered online, via telephone or in person as required. Or where necessary, managers can access rapid and effective clinical interventions through our crisis intervention service.
How can we help your company’s employees?
The training programmes we deliver for HR and line managers are complemented by professional development workshops for employees. These interactive workshops increase awareness of the most common indicators of psychological stress in terms of negative thinking patterns, emotional changes, physical sensations and behavioural responses, enabling employees to recognise and act on these signs at an early stage.
The workshops also encourage employees to identify and consider the effectiveness of their current coping styles, before introducing them to a range of specific clinically-proven techniques that help them to minimise the effects of stress.
What outcomes have been demonstrated?
The effectiveness of our stress management programmes has been demonstrated objectively in terms of markedly improved rates of staff retention and stress-related absences, as well as reduced levels of stress, anxiety and low mood, measured in groups of employees.
Moreover, on subjective measures, managers have consistently reported increased feelings of efficacy and confidence in relation to dealing with the mental health problems of the employees for whom they are responsible.
